Thursday 14 July 2011

Yesterday we learned about language lab and moodle, and then we worked to our projects. It was interesting and I can find utility in math lessons. Recording students' answers or a brainstorm is always welcomed and it is something which we can revisit. Then we worked on our project. I tried to read and learn how to create a lesson for English as a Second Language, but I realized that it is not too easy when I have taught only math and science. Therefore, I thank  Jean for giving me the permission to do in math; I will have math vocabulary anyway. I also will do another video appropriate for my project. As a matter of fact, at this time, I have to record the introduction and do the video, the text part I finished last night.

Video done!

Today we finished our video. It looks scholarly, but the most important thing is that we learned how to use the features of the IMovie. It is is easy to cut or to link two short movies, but it takes a lot of time (maybe for unexperienced people like me). However this time is shorter than the time needed when using Movie Maker.
We also had instruction on SMART board and SMART responses. The Smartboard has a lot of features, but I liked is that Jean recognized that the whiteboard is useful for many other things. I also liked the fact that Jean said that each board has its role because many teachers said that we do not need the whiteboard anymore and I wasn't agree with them. The smartboard is very good for interactive lessons in which students are learning by playing with it.

Video - learn words with different meanings

Today we learned to use IMovie. This software is way better than Windows Movie Maker. Even though I've worked on Vista with the later, the IMovie have more features and it is easier than the former. For the other course I had to do a 1 min video and I worked about 8 hours to edit it. In IMovie, I could edit it in 1-2 hours. Big difference!! Because I saw how I can use this software. Great! On the other hand, we had a lot of fun today when we recorded and edited together. This was an opportunity to know each other better. A great day and it had been finished too soon.

With what should I start? I like the map you showed us and "I stole" your idea. It is a good way to organize things. Then I played with a bunch of websites that each have its utility. I won't write them down here because I already put them in My favorite links, but I want to thank you again for also making my work easier for the other course I'm taking. Having these tools I am sure I can teach almost any subject, not only math.Thank you !!
